Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 24th February 2008
Nottingham 15pts v Lutterworth 15pts
After losing our unbeaten home record in Northampton the boys desperately needed to play the following week to get the defeat out of their system. Unfortunately the game with Oakham was postponed and this week’s performance at Nottingham reflected a two-week break from competitive action. This was a game which the boys were well capable of winning however as a result of some poor decision making and individual errors coupled with a solid Nottingham defence we contrived to draw the game 15 points each.
Nottingham drew first blood with a converted try part way through an evenly matched first half and Lutterworth responded with two unconverted tries from Tom Bingley and Ollie Allen. Nottingham deservedly drew level just prior to the half time interval thorough an excellent penalty kick from fully 30 metres out to give a half time score of Nottingham 10 Lutterworth 10.
Despite Nottingham making a number of changes at half time the pattern of the game remained the same with Lutterworth having plenty of possession but failing to capitalise and being consistently penalised in the ruck and maul and as a result conceding possession. Ollie Allen scored another unconverted try after another surging run but Lutterworth contrived to squander a number of further chances to put the game out of Nottingham’s reach. Nottingham drew level with only a couple of minutes left on the clock with a break away try scored their impressive outside centre after a strong run from within his own half. Good closing down and persistence meant that he was forced to touch down in the corner leaving an extremely difficult kick to win the game for Nottingham. Another excellent effort from the Nottingham kicker fell just short to leave a final score of Nottingham 15 Lutterworth 15.
