Lutterworth  36pts  v  Leicester Lions 5pts

Lutterworth Under 13’s entertained Leicester Lions in the final 15 a-side game of the season following on from the County Cup success of the previous week. With the posts already removed from the first team’s pitch in readiness for the Minis County Festival Lutts finished the season on familiar ground on the second team pitch.

In view of the recent lack of opportunities as a result of postponements and County Cup commitments it was decided that the squad members who had featured least in recent weeks should play as full a part as possible in today’s game which lead to a number of positional changes and some unfamiliarity between the players on the pitch.

Leicester Lions who seemed to have improved dramatically since we played them towards the end of January began very strongly pressing the ball well and forcing Lutterworth back towards their own 22.  This was the pattern for the first 10 minutes of  the game culminating in an unconverted try for Leicester Lions as a result of a number of missed tackles in the Lutterworth defensive line. The Lutterworth boys however responded as they have all season by pressing the ball from the re-start and forcing a number of handling errors. The Lutterworth forwards were able to drive the ball over the line for James Hewitt to score his first try of the season. A very commendable first half of rugby ended with scores even Lutterworth 5 Leicester Lions 5

Lutterworth made a number of changes at half time both in terms of personnel and position and despite a brave effort from Leicester Lions they were unable to compete with the added power and pace of the Lutterworth replacements. Lutterworth scored further tries from James Gamble and George Ball (4) three of which were converted by James Gamble to give a final score which somewhat flattered the Lutterworth side of Lutterworth 36 Leicester Lions 5.

Lutterworth travelled to Syston 7’s hoping to end what has already been an exceptional season on a high.
