Under 13 Match Report

SUNDAY 18th November 2007

Lutterworth  34pts  v  Syston 10pts

After what has been an extremely mild start to the season the weather took a decided turn for the worse on Sunday as Lutterworth Under 13’s entertained Syston in howling wind and driving rain.  Whist it seemed the conditions would dictate a forward battle the Lutterworth boys had no such ideas playing for the first 20 minutes as if it were a spring morning. The forwards played their usual game depriving the opposition of possession and delivering excellent ball to the backs who played some scintillating running rugby which carved Syston’s defence open almost at will.

This having been said the first try scored by Theo Spafford was a great pick and drive off the back of the 5 metre scrum which was then followed by Ollie Allen outstripping the whole of the defence with a powerful run from half way.Two further scorers were added by George Ball before half time.  James Gamble converted two of the tries to give a half time score of Lutterworth 24 Syston 0.

In view of the conditions the Lutterworth coaches decided to rotate substitutions throughout the game rather than making major changes at half time. Unfortunately the wind and rain continued throughout the whole game and the second half became much more scrappy in the wet and muddy conditions with all the players feeling the cold.

The Syston boys should be given great credit for sticking at the task and drawing the second half of the game in which each team scored two unconverted tries.  The Lutterworth tries were scored by Ollie Allen and Sam Webb following a fantastic offload from Jamie Jameson.

All in all it was a creditable performance from all the Lutterworth squad each of whom again played a full part and all of whom were muddy wet and cold by the end of the game.

We hope for better weather for the visit of Leicester Forest in the County Cup next Sunday, kick of 11.00am at Lutterworth
