Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 11th November 2007
Lutterworth 36pts v Melton Mowbray 5pts
With Lutterworth’s under 13 ranks being swelled by the return from injury over the last few weeks of Rob Burgess, Lawrence Stevenson and Kieran Kavanagh we were in the unchartered territory of having a squad of 25 to choose from for this morning’s game against Melton.
The game could not have started worse for the Lutterworth boys as one of the Melton centres intercepted a pass some 15 metres from our try line and raced clear to score the first try of the morning Undaunted by this early set back Lutts learned from the mistake of trying to move the ball too early in the windy conditions and reversed to a forward game pinning Melton in their own half before George Ball broke through the defensive line to score and bring the sides level. Sam Webb duly converted the try to give us a lead at 7 – 5.
This was followed by a great try scored in the corner by Harry Williams following a flowing move by the backs. Although there were some who questioned whether Harry had been forced into touch, in the absence of a video replay, the referee gave Harry the benefit of the doubt to see Lutterworth extend their lead. George Ball added two further tries and the forwards weighed in with two tries of their own from Ollie Allen and Sam Webb. Two of the tries were converted by James Gamble to leave Lutterworth with another convincing victory.
Great praise must once again be given to all the players as each of the 25 players used gave a creditable performance. It is a sign of how much stronger the squad is now and how much competition there is for starting places that despite the fact that 10 changes were made around the half time interval the quality of rugby played was consistently good throughout.
