Under 13 Match Report

BLACKPOOL TOUR

Fylde 7pts  v  Lutterworth  60pts

The second match day of the tour began in uncertain fashion. With the coach refusing to start the boys were shipped by parents’ car and taxi on the 40-minute journey over to Fylde for the second game of the tour.

Unlike the coach the Lutterworth boys were all revved up for the start of the game and despite kicking off forced a handling error, penalty advantage and scored under the posts all within 20 seconds of the start of the game. Having had a quiet game by his standards at Fleetwood the previous day George Ball ripped Fylde to pieces with his electric pace, which the Fylde team were unable to match on any level. This again however was not a one-man show with some excellent inter play between the forwards and backs complimenting some great individual tries.

In the first half and against, what we were assured was one of the better sides in the area, Lutterworth had racked up 7 tries scored by George Ball (4) Ben Gledhill, Rob Charlton and Sam Webb with James Gamble adding 3 conversions to give a half time score of Fylde 0 Lutterworth 41.

Again Lutterworth made wholesale changes at half time to ensure that everyone played a full part and to their credit Fylde did not let their heads drop and set about reducing the arrears immediately from the re-start. Following a flowing move across the field, Fylde scored the first try of the second half which they duly converted. Lutterworth however were too strong for the Fylde side and further tries were added in the second half by Ben Gledhill, Sam Webb and Tom Bingley with James Gamble adding 2 more conversions to give a final score of Fylde 7 Lutterworth 60.

It should be noted that Sam Webb’s try in the second half, a suitably ball breaking run from his own half, handing off all comers saw Lutterworth reach the remarkable milestone of 1000 points scored for the season which is without doubt an awesome achievement at any level of rugby.

On the subject of awesome we then had the pleasure of Fylde’s hospitality in their magnificent clubhouse before setting off for an afternoon at the Pleasure Beach in the snow.
