2nd Team Match Report
Saturday 2nd February 2008
Lutterworth 15pts v Oadby Wyggestonians 5pts
With the lst XV without a fixture, Lutterworth Seconds took centre stage at Ashby Lane on Saturday against a strong Oadby Wyggs side drawn from their First and Second teams.
There was no score during an entertaining first quarter although an adventurous kick and chase by Chris Stanley and Dan Ford nearly broke the deadlock. On twenty-five minutes however, Lutterworth pressure was rewarded with winger Giles Carter scoring a well worked try in the corner. The visitors fought back and levelled the score at 5-all at half time.
After the break it was all Lutterworth pressure from the hard working home forwards but strong defending by Oadby Wyggs prevented Lutterworth drawing ahead. Another enterprising Ford run came to nought but eventually Oadby Wyggs were forced to concede a penalty in their 22 which fly-half Andy Burgess turned into points for Lutts to take a slender 8-5 lead. The lead was extended with minutes to go when an Oadby Wyggs mix-up presented replacement Bobby Williams with the ball and an open run to the line and a score under the posts. Burgess added the conversion to close the books at a 15-5 win for Lutterworth. It had been a fine team performance from Lutterworth with flanker Simon Deacon outstanding in defence to share Man-of-the-Match honours with Ford.
