League Match

LUTTERWORTH  1st : 16pts  v  VIPERS 1st :  26pts

On a Saturday in a league, which is predictable only by its unpredictability, top of the table Wellingborough went down at fortress Stewarts and Lloyds but Lutterworth failed to remain in touch with the leaders (now Leighton Buzzard) in a lacklustre performance against local rivals, Vipers. Probably the only highlight for the home side was a fine uncompromising debut by centre, Grant Nolan, who came only minutes into the game after Tom Carter left the field nursing a broken wrist.

Bobby Williams took Lutterworth into an early lead with his first penalty attempt but within fifteen minutes Vipers hit back hard with what was their most successful tactic; two successive line-out catch and drives to which Lutterworth could find little answer all afternoon. Lutterworth replied in similar fashion, captain Chris Gregory taking the ball over for Williams to convert and then add another penalty to give the home side a half time lead of thirteen to ten.

Now playing with the wind at their backs Vipers had the second half all their own way and for the first time in what seemed like living memory the Lutterworth pack consistently found itself on the back foot. The backs too were not blameless, missed tackles and poor handling was there in abundance and the visitors seized their opportunities amassing sixteen points by way of a converted try and three penalties against a lone three pointer from Williams.

Next week our large and loyal band of supporters will be at Towcester Kick off 2.15pm.
