League Match
LEICESTER FOREST 1st : 19pts V LUTTERWORTH 1st : 8pts
Lutterworth looked to continue their winning form and consolidate their position amongst the leading sides in Midlands Three, Leicester Forest had other ideas and it was they, the better side on the day who took the points.
Early in the first period Forest’s fly half broke through the Lutterworth midfield drawing in defenders and allowing his outside centre acres of open space to take the ball over for a seven pointer. The pattern of the game was set and although Lutterworth had the best of both territory and possession, Forest defended well and clinically seized their few scoring opportunities.
Captain Chris Gregory blitzed over the line from a tap and go penalty to bring the visitors within two points but there was little else to raise the spirits of the Lutterworth supporters. An almost identical replay of their first try gave Forest a twelve to five half time lead but given that in the second half Lutterworth would have the substantial slope of the pitch in their favour, that lead did not look insurmountable.
However little changed after the break and despite Jim Croucher bringing his side to within four points with a converted penalty another repeat performance by the Forest midfield sealed the game in their favour. It was a lethargic and clumsy performance by a Lutterworth side that are capable of so much better, they will look to bounce back to winning ways next week when they travel to Woodrush for round two of the EDF Senior Vase.
