League Match

TOWCESTER 1st : 30pts  V  LUTTERWORTH  1st : 7pts

Playing with the wind that was whipping straight up the Towcester pitch, during the first forty minutes Lutterworth looked comfortable and in control. Although the visitors failed to match the home side’s first three pointer with a missed penalty attempt the first fifteen minutes were even stevens. A period of play followed during which Lutterworth looked infinitely superior, they were eventually rewarded with a fine try taken over by Jim Croucher after intense pressure kept Towcester pinned down in their twenty two. Despite the visitors losing their own lineout, flanker, Matt Randle’s tackle close to Towcester’s line was good enough to turn the ball over and Croucher seized his opportunity to take his side into the lead. That lead was short lived when Towcester responded with an unconverted try taking them into the break with a single point advantage.

Towcester came out for the second half with all guns blazing and in less than ten minutes had notched up nineteen points with three tries that left the visitors dazed and on the ropes. Lutterworth could be blamed for some basic errors and a catalogue of missed tackles but really all due credit must go to the home side who now playing with an increasingly strong wind put the game way out of Lutterworth’s grasp. A final converted penalty in the dying minutes sealed a victory for the home side with a score that probably flattered but was entirely down to that ten-minute blitzkrieg after half time.
