Under 16 Match Report
SUNDAY 29th October 2006
Lutterworth 26pts v Barkers Butts 7pts
Lutterworth under 16’s welcomed Coventry side, Barkers Butts on Sunday and produced their best performance of the season, to run out 26-7 winners.
Lutts, who were up against a powerful, full strength Butts team, had to cope with 9 players away on Leicestershire County duty. However Lutts showed the strength of their squad as they took an early lead through Tom Taylor. He stole Butts lineout ball on their 5-metre line and dived through for his first score of the season. 10 minutes later Lutterworth repeated this feat as they once again stole Barkers lineout ball. Will Williams reacted quickest to the loose, long throw and stomped his way over the line, dragging three opposition players with him! Jack Edwards converted the kick in front of the posts, to give them a 12-0 lead at half time.
Lutts were playing some lovely rugby and it wasn’t a surprise when try 3 arrived. A quick tap penalty was moved out to Peter Rowe who made a great run, but was held up as he drove towards the line. Warren Ellis was on hand to take over and he burrowed his way through and over to score. Edwards again converted. Lutts then scored the try of the game as James Cooke, Luke Ball and Andrew Pridding moved the ball beautifully through their hands and on to Ellis, who jinked his way through and behind the posts, to register his 2nd of the day. Edwards successfully completed a hat trick of kicks. Despite the score this had been a competitive game and Barkers Butts were rewarded with a deserved try in the last minute. Their winger made a lovely break through and looked certain to score but was pulled down short of the line. Jake Friedlos picked up and dived over the line. The score was converted to make the final score 26-7 to Lutterworth
A Lutts spokesman said “a great game from Lutterworth. The boys really stepped up today and produced the best team performance of the season so far.”
Next week Lutts host Old Northamptonians (kick off 11.00 am).
