Under 16 Match Report

SUNDAY 26th November 2006

Lutterworth 29pts  v  Towcester 5pts

Unbeaten run extended to 11 games!

Lutterworth under 16’s welcomed Towcester to Ashby Lane on Sunday and these two previously unbeaten teams this season, played out a fantastic game, with Lutts running out 29-5 winners.

Lutts were able to choose from a full squad for the first time in six weeks as the County contingent returned and they were all required as they met a very powerful and well-drilled Towcester side. The sides cancelled each other out for the first 10 minutes, before Gareth Clarke opened the scoring for Lutterworth. He received the ball at speed and raced through unopposed to score in the corner. Will Keeling converted the difficult kick. Soon after there was lovely work by captain Jack Edwards as he secured loose ball in his own half and moved the ball out to Clarke who sped down the wing, evading 3 tackles to touch down in the corner. Keeling again converted a most difficult conversion. Try three came as lovely hands between James Lloyd and James Cooke, saw the ball shipped out to Clarke who powered over from close range, despite having 3 defenders on his back! A superb hat trick, to cap off a great first half for Clarke. Towcester were not unbeaten for nothing however and there hard work was rewarded just before half time as they quickly moved the ball along the line from a quick tap penalty, for the winger to touch down in the corner, making it 19-5 to Lutts at half time.

A much closer second half saw Lutts finally put the game out of Towcester’s reach as Matt Everard scored. He took a quick tap penalty and drilled his way over for a well deserved try, for his first run out since a 7-week injury lay off. Lovely forward pressure saw 5 phases before the ball was moved out to winger Miles Lowry to steam in and score in the corner, making it 29-5 to Lutterworth at the close.

A Lutts spokesman said “An excellent game from both sides, played in the best of spirits, with the score doing Towcester’s commitment a little injustice. The Lutterworth lads pulled together well and it was great to welcome back the whole squad after County duties.”

Head Coach Chris Everard was also very proud to announce that an unprecedented 8 Lutts players were selected to trial for the Midlands, next weekend. So good luck to Dan Holmes, Will Keeling, Gareth Clarke, Ashley Parrott, Connor Smith, Matt Everard, Josh McLaurin and Greg Littlewood for the trials, taking place at Solihull.
