Broadstreet 17pts v Lutterworth 39pts
Lutts dominate a strong Bosworth side.
On Sunday Lutterworth Travelled to Cadeby Lane to face a strong Market Bosworth side. The last time these two sides met it was a narrow 2 points win to Lutts in last seasons County Cup Final, however this time Lutterworth ran out a well deserved 39-17 winners.
To give these two big squads a chance to play all there players, the game was played over 3 20 minutes thirds.
Lutts spent the first 5
minutes defending their own line before finally taking the game to Bosworth.
They made a lovely break before moving the ball along the line to Joe
Sullivan, who stepped the defender and scored at the side of the posts. Jack
Edwards kicked the conversion. The next score came as Jordan Sterriker made
good ground before releasing Peter Rowe. He shipped the ball to winger
Andrew Pridding who out paced the defenders down the wing, to run in and
score under the posts. Edwards again converted to make it 14-0 at the close
of the first third.
Lutts continued the pressure as Gareth Clarke scored his first of the day.
He received a pass, which was taken at speed, as he powered his way through
for a lovely score. Market Bosworth then came back into the game as the ball
was moved from one wing to the other before Jamie Wilkins dived through in
the corner, to make it 19-5 at the close of the 2nd third.
Both sides opened up in the final third as 6 tries were scored in this 20-minute spell. Matt Everard took a quick tap penalty on half way and made great ground before moving the ball to Will Keeling, Connor Smith and finally on to Clarke to finish off in the corner for his 2nd try of the day. Bosworth responded as Tom Peak picked up loose ball and out paced the Lutts defence to score under the posts. Blaine Bonnin-Ward successfully converted the kick. Lutts then moved quick scrum ball along the line for Clarke to finish off in the corner and register a lovely hat trick. Bonnin-Ward then scored a try of his own as he intercepted a loose Lutts pass, making it 29-17. Lutts then dominated the final minutes of the game as three attempts to cross the line were repelled by a strong Bosworth defence before captain Matt Everard received the ball and powered his way over, despite dragging three defenders with him! The last play of the game saw Connor Smith making good ground before releasing Greg Littlewood to out run the home side down the wing and score in the corner to make it 39-17 at the close.
Head Coach Chris Everard said ‘some great rugby in parts, but still plenty to work on in training on Thursday. We’ve beaten a very strong Market Bosworth side today, so we have to be pleased with that."
Next week Lutterworth travel to Hinckley RFC to meet local rivals Market Harborough in the final of the Leicestershire County Plate.
