Under 16 Match Report
SUNDAY 18th March 2007
Ilkeston 18pts v Lutterworth 10pts
Lutts / Derby loose out to Ilkeston.
On Sunday Lutterworth travelled to Ilkeston RFC to face a strong home side with a joint Lutts / Derby combined side. In a fiercely contested game, the home side ran out narrow 18-10 winners.
Ilkeston made full use of the fierce wind as they scored two penalties
before Liam Healy scored his second try in two weeks. It came from great
forward pressure before the ball was released to Healy to cross the line,
making the half time score 6-5 to Ilkeston.
Ilkeston supplemented their side with five changes at half time and began to
dominate the second half. Despite this it was the visitors who took the lead
through a well taken try from Derby’s Max Pendrey, making it 10-6. Crucially
the kick was again missed and Ilkeston began to exert some heavy pressure on
the visitor’s line. Two late Ilkeston tries, one converted gave the final
score a slightly disjointed look as Ilkeston won the game 18-10.
Coach Mike Rowe said ‘well done
to the Lutts / Derby combined team for a battling display against a tough
Ilkeston first team squad and with many of our players playing out of
position. Well done also to both sides for an excellent game of rugby,
despite the atrocious wind, rain and snow’.
