Under 16 Match Report

SUNDAY 18th March 2007

Derby 11pts v Lutterworth 38pts

Lutts dominate a strong Derby side.

On Sunday Lutterworth Travelled to Ilkeston RFC to face a strong Derby side. The last time these two sides met it was a narrow 3 points win to Lutts, however this time Lutterworth ran out powerful 38-11 winners.

Lutts put together a superb half of rugby as they scored 4 tries through Connor Smith (2), Matt Everard and Will Keeling, with Greg Littlewood converting two. Derby replied with two late penalties to make it 24-6 at half time. Try of the half came as James Lloyd picked up from a scrum on half way and made a lovely run before releasing Everard, who was on his shoulder in support. He continued the run forward making great ground, smashing through two tackles before passing onto Smith, who jinked through and into the corner for his second score of the day. This was a great half of passing rugby from Lutterworth made the better for playing into a fierce wind and hail!

The wind was now in Lutts favour, but it didn’t seem to do them any favours as Derby showed their character and kept them out. However great work by Keeling and the forwards opened the scoring in the 2nd half. He ripped the ball from Derby possession and was then driven brilliantly in a maul before releasing himself and running through the gap at pace, to score under the posts, for his second of the day. Littlewood converted his 3rd conversion of the day. Luke Ball scored try number 6 as a quick tap penalty was moved out to the wing for him to score in the corner. Keeling successfully converted. In a late rally by Derby, five minutes of forward pressure on the Lutts line was finally rewarded as they just pushed their prop over to make the final score 38-11 to Lutterworth.

Head Coach Chris Everard said  ‘another excellent display of passing rugby from Lutterworth, especially in the first half. Well done to both sides for a great game of rugby, despite the awful weather conditions’.
