Under 16 Match Report

SUNDAY 18th February 2007

Broadstreet 5pts v Lutterworth 39pts

Milner and Holmes score two apiece!

Lutterworth under 16’s travelled to the fantastic set up at Broadstreet RFC on Sunday and played in front of the impressive stand on the first team pitch, to register a great 39-5 win.

In a superb half of play Lutts showed their strength as they played the game missing 8 players due to England and Midland duties. The first two tries came from stolen line ball as both Jack Edwards and then Dan Holmes raced through after great line out work from a hard working Simon Johnson. Edwards converted his own try, while James Cooke converted try number two, to make it 14-0. Lutts scored another lovely try as James Lloyd and Miles Lowry passed the ball onto Bradly Milner, who out ran the defence, to score in the corner. Try four came just before half time as it was moved from one wing to the other before reaching Luke Ball, who used all his speed to step past 3 defenders before touching down in the corner, making it 24-0 at half time.

Broadstreet stepped up their game in the second half but the hard working Lutts side stretched the lead after a lovely run by winger Joe Seymour. He was pulled down 10 metres short and Lloyd was first to the ball, were he popped up a pass for Dan Holmes to take at speed and register his 2nd score. The home side pulled a score back after a quick tap penalty was quickly moved out to Matt Martin on the wing, to score in the corner. Lutts responded almost straight away as a quick tap pen was passed to Ethan Wright to power through. The final score came as lovely hands moved the ball out to Milner, who topped off another excellent game with his second score of the day, to make it 39-5 at the close.

Head Coach Chris Everard said, ”Another great game, these young lads are going from strength to strength. The first half showed us a great example of line out play and the passing was excellent throughout the whole game”

Next Saturday Lutterworth welcome a Welsh touring side in the shape of Abercwmboi RFC, with the kick off at 11.00 AM. This is a return fixture to repay this friendly Welsh side for their hospitality when Lutts toured Wales as under 9‘s, seven years ago.
