Under 16 Match Report

SUNDAY 10th December 2006

Barkers Butts 3pts v Lutterworth 10pts

Another great performance by Lutts u16’s!

Lutterworth under 16’s travelled to meet Coventry side, Barkers Butts for the second time this season and produced one of their best performances of the season, to run out 10-3 winners. And this was despite being without their 8 players who were taking part in the second trial for Midland District selection.

Lutts, who were up against a powerful, full strength Butts team, also had to cope with a very bogy first team pitch, designed to slow them down and play to Butts forward strength. Early on it looked if this ploy was going to pay off for the home side as they held up Lutts pressure and then opened up the scoring themselves. It came from a penalty kicked from directly in front of the posts by their scrum half, which gave them a slender half time 3-0 lead.

Lutts were disappointed to come off at half time tailing as they had most of the possession and looked like the only side that wanted to score a try. This pressure continued in the second half with two try scoring opportunities being missed before their efforts were rewarded. Lutts received a scum on the Butts 22, which was picked up by number 8 Bradly Milner. This versatile player made a bulldozing run towards the line, crashing through three defenders to score a lovely try in the corner. The difficult conversion was missed; so another score was required to seal the game. The one-way pressure continued and was finally rewarded as Lutts again used good scrum ball to their advantage. Scrum half Sam Berrill shipped the ball out to hooker Peter Rowe who used all his strength to power through and touch down for another excellent score. The difficult kick slipped a little short to make the final score 10-3 to a hard working Lutts side.

A Lutts spokesman said, “This squad just keep going from strength to strength. Despite being without senior players away on County and Midland duty during the last two months, they have showed their character by beating all before them. Today they beat a very powerful Barkers Butts side to continue their superb 13 match unbeaten run.”

Lutts final game before the festive season will be a match under floodlights when they travel to meet Hinckley on Wednesday 20th December, in a special Christmas challenge match.
