Under 16 Match Report

SUNDAY 8th October 2006

Lutterworth 5pts  V  Melton Mowbray  5pts

Melton U16’s squeeze through, just!

Lutterworth under 16’s welcomed Melton Mowbray to Ashby Lane on Sunday in the first round of this season’s County Cup and battled out a  5-5 draw.

Lutts took the spoils in a closely fought first half as a quick tap penalty on half way was passed along the line through 5 sets of hands before reaching Gareth Clarke. He received the pass at speed and made a lovely run down the wing, to score in the corner. The conversion was missed.

Melton had more of the ball in the second half but both sides cancelled each other out. Lutts received a penalty on the visitors 22, but missed the chance to move further ahead as the ball shaved the wrong side of the post. Melton then had a series of attacks before receiving a penalty of their own on the Lutts 5 metre line. The ball was moved quickly out to winger Jordan Curtis, who dived through for an equalising try. The kick was missed to set up an extremely exciting last 12 minutes. Both sides had the chance to win the game out right, but a draw was a fitting result, however cup rules give the game to the away side, in the event of a draw.

Well done to Melton Mowbray who march on into the quarter final and well done both sides for a pulsating game, played in the best of spirits.
