Under 16 Match Report

SUNDAY 1st October 2006

Lutterworth 15pts  v Oadby Wyggs 5pts

Lutts U16’s win the battle of the elements!

Lutterworth under 16’s welcomed Oadby Wyggs to Ashby Lane on Sunday and despite the atrocious weather conditions ran out 15-5 winners.

In a first half dominated by torrential rain and hail, both teams slugged out a 5-5 score at half time. Lutts opened the scoring when a driving maul was moving towards the line as hooker Joe Sullivan picked up and ran round to touch down. The teams then cancelled each other out before Oadby levelled the score through a lovely pick up and run down the wing by Nathan Paulton.

Lutterworth started to dominate in the second half as the weather eased a little, but it had left plenty of water on the ground. That next score was still evading Lutts before they brought on Connor Smith for his first run out after a 5-week injury layoff. He scored a superb try as he picked up the ball deep in his own half and demonstrated the art of the hand off as he evaded many tackles before touching down for a great try. The one-way traffic continued as Lutts finally sealed the game with a score from Warren Ellis. He followed up some great work in the maul, to pick up and power over the line, to make the final score 15-5 to Lutterworth. This was a great game from both teams, which despite the horrible weather was an excellent advert for junior rugby at this age group.

Next week Lutts entertain Melton Mowbray at home, in the first round of the Leicestershire County Cup (kick off 11.00 am).
