Under 15 Match Report
SUNDAY 29th October 2006
Lutterworth 24pts V Belgrave 7pts
A very tough hard fought win
It was a sunny dry day and a very hard fought win was the outcome. When you play Belgrave RFC you expect nothing less. The game was very close throughout the first half with no team giving any quarter. The entire first half failed to produce any near misses and it was played in the middle of the park. The second half however was a different matter and it was not long before Lutterworth RFC took the lead and put Belgrave under pressure.
The Scrum was won by Lutts and Chan got the ball and spread it to Bruce, Ryan did well to hang on to the ball because the pass was rather high, he did hang on however and he was even tackled just short of the line, Ryan’s momentum took him over the line and Lutts were winning at last. Ryan also converted and the score was 7 – 0. Within a further 10 minutes Lutterworth scored again Bruce again involved passed to Thacker and Thacker passed it back to him for him to score his second of the day. The conversion just drifted to the right 12 – 0. Leo Yorke showed more improvement and this was demonstrated when he took a loose ball and when two advancing players from Belgrave approached him he side stepped twice to evade both oncoming players. Calum McDougall caught a lovely ball from the kickoff after the second try and this should set a standard for all the forwards to emulate!
Belgrave woke up and put some pressure on the Lutterworth pack and after a 10 minute spell they finally got their reward, it was their centre Ryan Allen who sprinted through to leave the Lutts defence in his wake and Mason Fray converted to make the score 12 – 7. An immediate reply from Lutterworth extended their lead when great work from the forwards resulted in the scrum being won, Chan spread it to Thacker then on to Bruce who in turn gave it to Barnaby Barker who beat two men who tried to tackle him and he fell over the line too score. Ryan Bruce converted and the score increased to 19 – 7. The next try was identical to the last one with Chan to Thacker then on to Bruce who let loose Barker again making the score 24 – 7. There were a few more attempts at getting tries and Jack Hendy who was having a storming game contributed with a lot of running and great positional play, it was Jacks best game of the season so far and did not go unnoticed from the large crowd.
Belgrave have certainly improved over the last few years and with a little more discipline and a little more support instead of shouting they will get better. A good win today for the lads and how physical the game was, we certainly know we have been in a game.
Men of the Match Forwards : Calum McDougall. Backs: Jack Hendy
Steady game from both lads.
Coach’s comments: ''The coach was a little critical of the pack today but it was all constructive, he said that although at times we played with a lot of vision we still had a lot of improvement to make if we want to go that one step up. We must use the ball more instead of trying to go alone. We must back up our forwards more when they go forward and we must show more commitment and make sure we have a lot more communication. At times we were too quiet We all must step up to the plate and make our mark. We made hard work of it today and we only have two more weeks before we play in the next round of the County Cup. The coach finished off saying that the tries that were scored today were truly magnificent and that produced the result we were looking for. Work hard and we will go that one step up, all it takes is hard work and total commitment. He knows you all want that, be patient and it will be achieved''
