Under 15 Match Report

SUNDAY 19th November  2006

COUNTY CUP

Lutterworth 50pts  V  Hinckley 0pts

The sun was out, the players were ready the pitch was ready. The opposition, HINCKLEY, the rivals that we all love to beat where ready. It was a great start with the Lutts forwards being dominant right from the off with drive after drive into the heart of the Hinckley pack. Just to let them know that the Lutts boys where up for this game.

The first 10 minutes was nearly all played in the Hinckley half with the forwards driving and releasing quick ball to the backs. Eventually the ball came out with Luke Sandford picking the ball up off his toes (something his father never managed) and sending the ball out wide to meet Ewan on the burst who was then over for the first try of the match. The conversion was just missed as it drifted wide, using a tee. The game restarted and again the ball was won by the forwards, Chan moved it out and the ball went down the line with Jamie going round the opposition and under the posts and subsequently converted. A Tee was used. The next passage of play saw the forwards led by Eddie Hopkins catch at the kick off roll down the touch line to within metres from the Hinckley try line. Vossy picked up and drove for the try line only to be held up. At this point the two forward packs decided to square up which resulted in Eddie being sin binned. Enough for the ref and the half time whistle blew.

Right from the kick off the tackling from the backs was ferocious and the Lutts forwards where able to turn over the ball to allow the backs to run at the opposition time and time again. Eventually resulting in Ewan, again going over for a try which Luke converted. At the next kick off Mikey caught the ball and drove forward. The ball whizzed out to the backs with Dan kicking down field. Josh Connor and MIkey pursued the kick, outpacing the backs who should take note of the speed in the forwards. The pressure resulted in a scrum. The ball came out and Callum went one way on the dummy taking all the opposition forwards with him. Meanwhile Alex went the other way with Dan surging through the tackle to score under the post, it was converted by Luke. The players now stepped up a gear and at the kick off the ball went wide and the attack was on again. Poor handling from Hinckley gave Lutts the scrum. Out came the ball and down the line it went with Harry swerving in and then out and then over the line for try 5.

From the kick off the Lutts pack controlled the ball and through rolling mauls and quick passes to the backs it wasn’t long before the Lutts team where deep in the Hinckley 22 again. Suddenly that well known sprinter, Eddie Hopkins, burst free from the maul and drove over the line for a try in the corner. The rest had obviously done him good. Dan gave up with the tee and from the touchline dropped the goal. Much to his own amazement, and the supporters. At the kick off Mikey was taken out in the air and had to leave the field. This resulted in the number 38 from Hinckley being sin binned. Penalty to Lutts and again off the team charged. Hinckley turned the ball over and kicked upfield. Another score from Ewan making three for the day. Bradley caught the ball and raced back to the attackers. Quick dummy and a short pass to Bam and the try was on in the corner. Again an infamous drop goal by Dan (eyes closed this time), and the game was over.  50 points were up for the team and Hinckley hadn’t crossed the line.

A magnificent game from the team with everyone being involved.

Man of the match Forwards: Jack Lewis.
                                        Backs, Ewan Grunwald.
