Under 15 Match Report
SUNDAY 18th March 2007
Lichfield 10pts v Lutterworth 22pts
On a very windy / cold day with a lot of injuries, it was time players stepped up to the mark and that’s exactly what they did. The tackling was immense and the passing was very precise with good movement on this very windy day.
The game was 10 minutes old when a move right across the field resulted in Chan getting the ball and passing it to Goldsworthy to score in the corner. Sandford had no chance with the kick against the wind 0 – 5. Although Lutts had the majority of play they nearly conceded a try when the centre made a break through the heart of the defence, it was left up to the last man Leo Yorke to pull off a tremendous tackle to bring the big man down. Lutterworth woke up and responded with another try. A superb move progressing up field in both directions across the field ended when Joe Leeks got the ball, Joe switched direction and burst through to put the ball under the posts, Luke Sandford scored the conversion 0 – 12. Just before half time it was Big Josh who extended the lead. Josh gained possession from the ruck and went down in the corner, whilst Lutterworth were playing the advantage 0 – 17 Half Time.
In the second half it was more a case of keeping the ball because of the strong wind. Litchfield had a lot of the ball and Lutterworth’s boys kept putting in great tackles. Bradley Pell, Josh Williams, Callum McDougall, Josh Connor and George Hargreaves all put in immense tackles and it was with great credit that the backs kept the ball moving. Lutterworth extended their lead when Pell tackled their centre and Leeks got the ball, Joe chipped the ball up and caught it with three opponents left in his wake, he ran through evading two more tackles and got to the line, he was then tackled but his momentum took him through to score a truly great try 0 – 22. Litchfield to their credit kept working at their game and finally got on the score sheet with three minutes to go Litchfield won the scrum and took the ball across the line with Craig Prosser scoring. With one minute to go another score by our West Midlands opponents when our defence could not hold a big push and Litchfield scored with Cameron Thorn getting on the score sheet, Neither conversion was made and the final score was 10 – 22.
Coaches comments:
" In training we do things every week that we work hard to achieve. It was a pleasure today to see that the hard work you do in training comes off. We passed the ball well , we tackled superbly and we listened to all the advice that was given, Well done everyone played great and certainly stepped up to the mark though all our injuries."
Man of the Match: Forwards: Joshua Connor.
