Under 15 Match Report

SUNDAY 18th February  2007

Broadstreet 17pts  v  Lutterworth 48pts

Lutterworth started very strongly and it was Joshua Connor who opened the scoring in the fourth minute in the far corner after winning the ball from a ruck and setting Lutts on their way 0 - 5. Within two minutes Joe Leeks picked a loose ball up and sprinted across the field crossing the line to score.  Ryan Bruce converted with a terrific kick 0 – 12. Lutterworth were well on top and it was a surprise to see Broad Street score with their first penetration into the Lutterworth half of the pitch 5 - 12. Lutterworth had won 4 scrums against the head, but poor passing had kept the score down. Lutts had thought their lead was extended but G Hargreaves try was disallowed, only the referee saw an infringement.

The third try from Lutterworth was not long in coming and it was Ewan Grunwald who scored his first of the day. He picked a loose ball up and ran 50 metres putting it down in the corner, Bruce now getting lots of practice on the line made no mistake 5 – 19. Broad Street were not finished yet and responded well when they caught Lutterworth cold by pinching a bad pass from the Lutts lads and storming through to score under the posts, 10 – 19, Half Time.

The try just before half time gave Broad Street the confidence they needed and sure enough they scored again it was a Lutts poor pass and the Broad Street Center ran through the heart of the Lutts pack to score and convert making the score 17 – 19. There now seemed to be a turning point in the game Dan Ellis made a huge hit on one of Broad Street’s players and that was enough to wake up all the lads on Lutterworth’s side and the tries started to come thick and fast. The next score was Ewan Grunwald again he ran through their defence switching direction a couple of times and also evading a wild challenge from a Broad Street player who lunged in with both feet, Ryan again converted and the score was now 17 – 26. Within another four minutes  a great move by Lutterworth was finished off by Luke Sandford.  Luke dashed through to take the pass and cross the line,  Bruce again scoring with a tremendous kick and the score rose to 17 – 33. Matt Glover (with highlites) sprinted as if he was a winger although he was caught he managed to lay the ball back and the move continued forward with Ryan Bruce crossing in the corner, he missed his own conversion only by a whisker though, 17 – 38.   Ryan scored his second try of the day when Mikey Ingham gained the loose ball and ran past four defenders and passed the ball back for Ryan to score 17 – 43. The final score of the day was by Ewan Grunwald who again had to evade another two footed lunge from the feet of the same player (I don’t know why he was still on the pitch) Ewan crossed the line to get his Hat Trick of tries and the final score was 17 – 48 to Lutterworth RFC.

Man of the Match: Matt Glover -  Forwards.

                                   Ewan Grunwald - Backs.

Coaches Comments:

"Although we won easily in the end, we made it very hard at times through poor passing and running across the park instead of forward. We must work very hard in the next two weeks making sure we are right for the County Cup. There was some fine play though today and we showed we would not be bullied."
