Under 15 Match Report
SUNDAY 15th October 2006
COUNTY CUP
Leicester Lions 7pts V Lutterworth 36pts
Lions Roar Silenced.
It was a great day to play Rugby the conditions were dry with a soft pitch . Lutterworth had been properly prepared and there was a large following from the Lutterworth Club. Lutts did not disappoint their fans. The game was only five minutes old when they took the lead. It was Lutts first scrum they pushed forward and up popped Chan with the ball, he fed it to Daniel Thacker, the Captain crossed the line to start the scoring for the day. Ryan Bruce who is kicking really well converted the try and Lutterworth were 0 – 7 to the good.
Leicester Lions fought back and were fighting with everything they had. They were scrummaging well but Lutterworth looked a little to powerful for them. The second try of the day was started and scored by Bruce. Ryan passed the ball to Thacker, who in turn fought of a couple of tackles and passed the ball back to Bruce who had gone on the outside of him. Ryan collected the ball and crossed over in the corner. It was a great try and Bruce was unlucky not to convert when his kick hit the upright and bounced out, 0 – 12. Lions were now being pegged back in their own half, Lutterworth did not relent and there was another try looming. Sure enough it came when Greg Taylor nicked the ball after a great kick from Joe Leeks up field Greg ran through, he went to ground and set up the impressive Mikey Ingham. Mikey picked up the ball and smashed his way through to score right in the corner, the conversion was made through Bruce and the score was 0 – 19 to Lutterworth. Leicester Lions although down were not out and their pacey winger Josh Price ran straight across the line from deep in his own half, ran straight through the heart of the Lutts pack and kicked the ball on. He then out ran all in his wake and dived on the ball making the score after Will O Riley converted 7 – 19. Just before the break Lutterworth had the final say when Bradley Pell broke loose, passed to Goldsworthy and Harry continued forward evading a couple of tackles before crossing the line making the score 7 – 24.
The second half started much like the opening with the Lutts pressing for more points. It was not long before their pressure paid off and it was that man Bruce who once again started the move. He got the ball side stepped a tackle and turned round to pass to Ingham, the ball was sent down the line to Leeks who got himself on the score sheet when he went over in the corner. Ryan and Mikey had great hands when they started the move and this was the best try of the day 7 – 29. Barney Barker came on and it was only three minutes before he got on the score sheet. He had already been unlucky and held up just short of the line, but this time he was not to be stopped. it was Connor who picked up a low pass ran forward and passed to Thacker who in turn pass it down the line to Barker and the latter scored. Ryan Bruce converted and the final score was 7 – 36 to Lutterworth. A great day for the lads, who now look forward to the next round.
Coaches Comments: ''A very pleasing result, with some sublime play at times. We can still work on rucking and a little more communication would not go a miss. We must try and eradicate ripping the ball out. We do not need to do this with our play. Well played all of you. A big thank you to all the squad who came to support when on this occasion not selected. ''
Man of the Match: To hard to call, well done the entire squad.
