Under 15 Match Report
SUNDAY 12th November 2006
Long Buckby 29pts V Lutterworth B 5pts
Lutterworth RFC was asked to bring only a B squad for this fixture so the lads who have been short of game time recently were picked too play. We only took a squad of 16 players so it was important that all players supported one another. True to Lutterworth’s tradition all 16 players worked hard and never gave up.
The game started with the 28 man squad of Long Buckby putting pressure on the Lutterworth defence right from the start. Lutterworth never got out of their own 22 for the first 15 minutes and it was inevitable that Long Buckby would score. Their first try came when Long Buckby won a scrum and passed it along the line and Centre D Best ran through too score, Jay Jay converted and Lutts were down 7 – 0. Another 5 minutes later and Lutterworth conceded again this time it was winger Ryan Spriggs who touched down and Jonathan Palmer converted, making the score 14 – 0. Lutterworth settled down to the task and started to play with a little bit of confidence, in fact they started pushing Long Buckby back deep into their own half. Lutterworth started to pick up one or two niggling injuries where the lads needed to come off for treatment, this unsettled the squad because we lost our rhythm and this let Long Buckby gain valuable yardage to put the pressure on our defence again. Just before half time an unlucky bounce found the advancing Matt collier from Buckby and he had the simplest of chances to score, 19 – 0 Half Time.
The score remained the same for the first 15 minutes of the second half and Lutterworth were matching their opponents in procession and effort. Against the run of play Long Buckby scored again this time a penalty against Lutterworth allowed Long Buckby to reset and they scored with ease in the corner, the scorer was Jordan Garland, 24 -0 to Long Buckby. Lutterworth never gave up and they were unlucky not too score when Bradley Pell was held up on the line after a great drive from the Lutterworth Forwards led by Goodfellow. At last Lutts scored, Goodfellow caught the ball in the lineout from a Long Buckby ball, Lutterworth set a ruck up and they moved the ball along the line, it eventually went out to Dominic Hurr and the winger scored in the corner, it was no more than Lutterworth deserved, 24 – 5 with two minutes too go Long Buckby completed the scoring for the day. Jonathan Palmer scored his second of the day again in the corner too make the final score 29 – 5 to the host’s. A brave effort from a 16 man squad who never gave up against a large squad of players who were much bigger in size and numbers.
Coaches Comments:
'' Well done boys with a scratch side although a shaky start you managed too match the opposition with possession and we really did start to believe in ourselves and played with a lot of endeavor as a unit ''
