Under 15 Match Report
SUNDAY 8th October 2006
Nuneaton 0pts V Lutterworth 10pts
Superb Performance
Lutterworth knew they were in for a tough game today and that is exactly what they got. Lutterworth right from the start put immense pressure on the Nuneaton 22; in fact Nuneaton did not really get out of their own half for the first 20 minutes. There was lots of effort and fluent moves across the park from the Lutts pack and it was no more that they deserved when they took the lead after 22 minutes. After a series of penalties given to Lutterworth they took advantage of a 10 yard ruck and pushed it forward only for Joshua Connor to pick up the ball and hand off two players before crashing over the line to set the Lutts on their way.
The game was getting very physical and both teams were giving their all for the cause. Nuneaton threatened to break away but their winger was nailed by three players before he could release the ball. Bradley Pell caught the ball well today and he gained lots of ground every time he had the ball. Daniel Thacker stepped his game up and it seemed to inspire the rest of the lads. The whole pack when called upon showed Nuneaton that they were determined to put the last couple of years of defeats behind them and that this year there was no chance of losing.
With two minutes of the first half to play another penalty conceded by Nuneaton just 10 yards from their line was taken by Alex Chan. Alex tapped the ball and ran through their defence although nearly stopped the referee would not allow the challenge to go ahead on Chan because they had not retreated 10 yards, Alex went all the way and touched down making the half time score 0 – 10 to Lutterworth.
The second half started and the large crowd was getting involved almost as much as the both squads. Nuneaton were trying everything to get back into the game but the Lutts squad are not an easy touch and one thing the coaches have installed is discipline, not once did they concede a penalty and every tackle was greeted with great enthusiasm from their supporters. With five minutes to go Nuneaton’s winger broke through he beat three tackles and was just about to dive over the line when from nowhere Daniel Thacker put in a truly magnificent tackle to send the winger right in to touch, with only 4 games gone this surely will be one to put forward towards tackle of the season.? Although Nuneaton put on lots of pressure on the Lutts 22 they were not allowed to cross the line, in fact the game ended with Lutts making a last effort to score another try. Joe Leeks just missing out on a try only short of the line by three yards.
