Under 15 Match Report
SUNDAY 4th March 2007
County Cup Final
Loughborough 7pts v Lutterworth 3pts
Lutts showed spirit but lose
Very wet & windy with a lot of mud, not the best of conditions for a Cup Final but Lutterworth showed great spirit and played their hearts out. It was a very close game with only a score between these two sides all throughout the game.
Lutterworth took the lead after ten minutes when Loughborough conceded their third penalty in a matter of minutes, this time Ryan Bruce elected to kick for goal, he made no mistake and scored from the line about 30 yards out, 3 – 0. The first 20 minutes Lutterworth had the majority of pocession. It was from a breakaway against the run of play that Loughborough scored the only try of the game. The ball was intercepted and spread out to Matt Fisher who raced down the wing to score, Ethen Barns converted from just in front of the posts and Lutterworth found themselves trailing 3 – 7. Luke Sandford crossed the line to score for the Lutts but the referee disallowed the try saying it was not grounded. Lutts had another penalty but Ryan just kicked to the right of the post and the score remained 3 -7 at half time.
The game was being played at a frantic pace neither side could get out of the middle of the park and both sides got bogged down and could not get their passing games going. Barney Barker was tremendous for Lutterworth today and his spirit showed the entire game especially when you know he has been suffering with an injury for the last four weeks. Loughborough started to pressurise the Lutts defence but the lads stayed strong and in the last 15 minutes it was Lutterworth who kept Loughborough pegged back deep into their own 22. Vostanis fronted up well and he was a tower of strength,Connor went through and was held up just short of the line, Hargreaves battered his way through and he toowas held just short and then Ewan Grunwald thought he had scored in the corner but once again whilst the Lutts boys celebrated the try was not given. Lutterworth were defeated but the whole squad gave their all and the coaches were very proud of them all. It was a very quiet dressing room and the Captain who had withdrawn with an injury did his best to keep the teams spirits up. The lads have asked me to thank all of the boys and the parents of all at our club for coming to watch, on such a bad day it was tremendous turn out, Congratulations to Loughborough, we will be back next year.
Coaches Comments:
"Well played to you all, we could not have asked for more effort. On another day the score might have been different, but today the luck was not with us."
