Under 15 Match Report

SUNDAY 3rd  December  2006

Derby 10pts  V  Lutterworth   14pts

 Tough but we did enough!

A very tight hard fought game this week, with Derby RFC being the opponents. It was not until the 20 minute that Lutterworth broke the deadlock, the first try of the game was scored when the lineout was won and Big Josh Connor went over in the corner, together with a great kick from Ryan Bruce converting put the Lutts on their way. The majority of the game was played in the middle of the park, with neither team able too gain control because of the heavy conditions. A very large crowd saw a very entertaining battle between two very determined packs. Alex Vostanis and Alex Chan were instrumental in many of the Lutterworth’s good moves and both players showed lots of magical skills. Lutterworth’s second try came when Connor won possession and set it for Chan to release Leeks. Joe set on a 60 metre run and dodged a few tackles and left his opponents in his wake too score between the post’s.  A great run and no more than Lutterworth deserved, Ryan once again converting and the score was 0 – 14 at half time.

The second half started with Lutterworth making sure that the rest of the squad had game time. The determination by the replacements was just as fierce as the starting fifteen. Jamie Steventon was unlucky not to get a try when he fumbled the ball just short of the line and Thacker too was held up just 3 metres short. Derby had started to gain some confidence and they were rewarded with a try in the corner when Jones touched down. They missed the conversion from the line making the score 5 -14.  A nervous 10 minutes resulted in Derby scoring again, this time it was their Polish center Vlod Surma who scored after powering his way over the line, the conversion was again missed so Lutterworth remained 4 points clear. Lutterworth changed the pack again and ended the stronger team, in fact we stayed in their 22 for the last ten minutes and we were unlucky not to add to the total of points scored today.

Man Of The match:

Forwards Alex Vostanis.

Backs: Alex Chan. 100% commitment by both players.

A mention for Martin Rayner who had another great game

Coaches Comments:

"A great day out for us, with everyone getting some good game time. We stuck at it throughout and got the result we wanted. There was some very good play and if the pitch hadn’t have been so heavy we would have had a more comfortable win. Well played everyone"
