Under 15 Match Report

SUNDAY 1st October  2006

Lutterworth  38pts V  Oadby Wyggs  12pts

Conditions: Windy, Cloudy

Oadby turned up with a few injuries, so it was Lutterworth who kindly lent them Dominic Hurr for the day to play for them. The game started at a very brisk pace and both teams were sizing each other up for the first ten minutes. It was Lutterworth to put the first serious challenge to the try line but Connor got held up just short of the line, Oadby managed to clear their lines only to give a penalty away. Hargreaves tapped it off his foot and ran through to cross the line to score, A very well taken try which caught the opponents cold, Due to the wind Bruce could not use his (£20 sorry mike) tee. So a drop kick was the required kick for the conversion, this was duly converted and Lutts took a 7 – 0 lead.

Oadby were now being overrun for the first time in the game and it was Chan who took it out the scrum and did a great run of 50 metres before releasing Bruce to touch down for Lutts second try of the game, Bruce did another drop kick to take the score to 14 – 0. The second score woke Oadby up and they started to take Lutterworth deep into their 22, it wasn’t long before their pressure paid off and they finally scored after 30 minutes when Lutterworth put the ball in the scrum only for Oadby to win it against the head, Thomas Kirkland scored with ease & Richard Wale Converted to reduce the arrears to 14 – 7. Dominic Hurr on a days loan nearly scored for Oadby he was just held up on the line, Dominic seemed determined to show the Lutts lads just what he could do, he was really getting stuck in. Lutterworth were winning the majority of the scrums and Connor broke through to set it for another flowing move which resulted in Barker scoring the next try in the corner, it was a very good move that deserved the score. Bruce could not convert against the strong wind so the score was now 19 – 7.

Once again Oadby conceded a penalty and Chan again set up the move on to Leeks, Leeks to Chan, Chan to Jaycee, on to Thacker back to Chan on to Hargreaves then Hargreaves scored directly under the post’s. Bruce scored with the kick and the half time whistle went making the score 26 – 7. It was not long before extended their lead, it was a very slack pass from the Oadby Fly Half that let Barker intercept his pass and dive over the line, with the conversion being kicked by Radley the score moved on to 33 – 7. Although the score looked one sided, this was far from the case Oadby were getting stuck in and putting Lutterworth on the back foot. Oadby were rewarded with a try after they won a scrum against the head, they won a few rucks and continued to gain yardage, eventually Ellis got the ball and crossed the line, they could not convert so the score was now 33 – 12. Lutterworth had not finished yet Sandford broke through and was unlucky not to give a final pass to get a score. The final score of the day resulted when Barker broke through with Sandford the dummy was made and Barker scored in the corner, the conversion was missed but the score was a very creditable 38 –12 win.
