SUNDAY 12th December 2006

Chesterfield 12pts  v  Lutterworth  10pts

On a very wet and windy morning, not the best conditions for playing rugby,  Chesterfield kick off into a very strong wind and the ball goes straight into touch. Lutterworth take a set scrum on the half way line, scrum half Jack Tranter spins the ball out across the backs to give an early touch to the Lutterworth back line, but good defensive work by Chesterfield leads to a knock on and from the set scrum Chesterfield pass the ball across the backs and from an overlap full back Dan Jackson stops the Chesterfield winger on the 5 yard line, From the set scrum Chesterfield pick up from the back of the scrum and burst over to open the scoring.

With the wind behind them Lutterworth start to put some pressure on the Chesterfield defence and breaks by forwards Sam Weatherall and Chris Gutteridge lead to Sam Huckerby taking the ball on and breaking through the Chesterfield defence to score in the corner, Jack Tranter misses the conversion.

Half Time Chesterfield 5  Lutterworth 5

Lutterworth kick off the second half now playing into the very strong wind but keep sustained pressure in the Chesterfield 22 and breaks by centre Harley Lambrianou and winger Simon Sandercock lead to Chesterfield giving away a penalty on their 10 yard line and from the set piece Sam Huckerby crashes through the Chesterfield defence to give Lutterworth the lead, Jack Tranter misses the conversion. The poor playing conditions leads to a period of midfield exchanges with both sides knocking the ball on trying to pass the ball wide. However when Lutterworth no 10 Leo Sollit has to leave the pitch due to an injury Chesterfield capitalise on the changes when they kick over the defence, regain the ball then pass inside to score next to the posts. When the try is converted it gives them a slender 2 point lead.

Lutterworth continue to pressure the Chesterfield defence and when they get a set scrum 10 yards from the Chesterfield line in the centre of the pitch it looks like an opportunity, but Chesterfield steal they ball and kick clear to hang onto the narrow lead.
