Under 14 Match Report

SUNDAY 11th December 2005

Lutterworth  22pts  V  Sutton Coldfield 5pts

Conditions :   Sunny / Soft.

A very good opportunity for the guys who had not had a run out last week to stake their claims for recognition today, and they sure did not let themselves down either. Sutton had told us they had a few players missing today so an interesting game was expected. Lutterworth were matching a bigger pack from the start but it was Lutterworth who took the lead when Bradley Pell stole the ball and laid it off to Radley, Paddy went through and set it for Ingham to score and Paddy Radley to convert, 7 – 0. Sutton were reeling and right from the kick off they conceded another try when Alex Vostanis caught the restart kick and he ran straight through their pack to score a truly great try, 12 – 0 to Lutterworth RFC. Jamie Steventon, Dominic Hurr and Bradley Pell were all showing well  supported by Sam Walch and Martin Rayner who both gave their all today. Ingham was showing his strength and occasionally showed just how fast he can be as well. Jamie Steventon produced a try saving tackle just short of the line, but the inevitable happened when the opponents won a scrum and Ryan Wells grabbed the ball to score for the visitors, 12 – 5. The game at this stage was very even with both sides huffing and puffing but neither gaining much territory. The one time Sutton Coldfield did penetrate Lutts defence Alex Dann was there to make a great tackle preventing them from scoring. Dominic Hurr was making terrific runs and his hard work certainly did not go unnoticed. 12 – 5 to Lutterworth at half time.

Lutterworth pack looked to be gelling a little better in the second half Matt Glover and George Lane with Jonathan Faire getting more and more involved. Sam Padbury and Jack Lewis benefited from this run out today and Lutterworth raised their game to another level. Sam Walch was another who made a terrific tackle he held on to the Sutton Goldfield’s winger and put him out in to touch. Lutterworth extended their lead when the ball was spread right across the line and it finally found Barnaby Barker who left three defenders in his slipstream to score a good try 17 – 5. Once more the tigerish Dann was there to make one of his special tackles and this again lifted the Lutts pack. With about five minutes left of the game a few replacements were added to the line up and one of them was Joe Leeks.  Ben Stone did a tremendous run and he passed the ball to Thacker, he in turn passed to Leeks and the try was well taken and placed under the bar in the centre of the posts 22 – 5.  Radley attempted to drop the conversion but it was just wide and the score finished 22 – 5.  This took Lutterworth’s wins to 12 this season with only the one defeat.
