Under 14 Match Report
SUNDAY 30th October 2005
Banbury 8pts V Lutterworth 22pts
Pitch Conditions: Soft
Weather: Rain
Poor Conditions But good win.
Despite a very strong downpour throughout the first half it was a very close game of rugby. Both sides were determined to get a good start and it was Banbury who did just that, they kept Lutterworth defending deep into their own half and finally made the breakthrough after 15 minutes when Lutterworth were caught not releasing the ball and conceded a penalty straight under the post. Banbury went for the kick and Wright scored 3 – 0 to the home side.
Banbury had a lot of possession and this was made worse for Lutterworth when we had three injuries within ten minutes of one another. Dann, Goldsworthy and Rayner all had to be replaced and the squad had to readjust. Banbury could have scored again but Goodfellow made a very important tackle on the line and the ball was knocked forward and Lutterworth had the scrum. With five minutes to go in the half Lutterworth scored. There was very good support from the forwards at the ruck, and Radley passed to Thacker, Dan raced on and rode two or three tackles but he was tapped just short of the line and Joe Leeks swooped down to pick up the ball and score the try 3 – 5.
Lutterworth were still celebrating what seemed a good fight back when Banbury once again took the lead back. This time a well won ruck and some good support by winger Lyons who crossed the line sent Banbury in to lead at Half Time 8 – 5. Lutterworth had their usual huddle at the break and this had the desired effect because Lutterworth looked a different proposition early on. Lutterworth put the pressure on and won a very good maul, the ball was passed to Joe Leeks and Joe did not let the side down as he crossed over for his second try of the game 8 - 10. The tackle of the day was about to take place at this point Louise the tallest forward on the park got the ball and within the blink of an eye Thacker upended him with a brilliant tackle that left Louise dazed.
Lutterworth were now in control and it was not long before the lead was increased Vostanis won the ball and raced 40 metres handing off a couple of challenges before being caught just short of the line, Joe Leeks again was on hand to cross the line and score a hat trick of tries today 8 – 15. With two minutes to go the hard working Bruce got his name on the score sheet when the best move of the day resulted in his try. Good forward play saw Ingham pass on to Hargreaves then a good loop from Radley and Thacker released Bruce and he scored under the bar. Ryan converted and the final score was 8 – 22.
