Under 14 Match Report

SUNDAY 29th January 2006

Lutterworth  12pts V  Belgrave 5pts

Conditions: Dry / Sunny

Illness and injury problems hit squad

A very physical game and game where we only had 20 fit members of the squad available resulted in a game of few excitements and a very low scoring encounter against a much improved Belgrave RFC squad.

Lutterworth maintained their discipline when Belgrave lost theirs. Barnaby Barker was loaned to Belgrave for the day because of their shortage of players, and guess what, he received their man of the match.

Lutterworth looked the stronger pack if not the larger one. Belgrave where pegged back deep in to their own half for the first 15 minutes. George Hargreaves was the first player to make his mark on the game, he scored after 11 minutes when Lutts won the ruck and Hargreaves picked up the ball and turned inside to put the ball over the line, Ryan Bruce converted and the score was 7 – 0. Lutterworth made some very early replacements making sure that all that were present had a decent run out, with County cup games coming up all the squad will be needed to play a lot of minutes in the near future, the coaches are making sure everyone is prepared. Alex Dann made a brilliant tackle on the impressive Lewis Shaw, Lewis had only Alex too beat but the little dynamo stopped him in his tracks. Martin Rayner, Jack Hendy, Chris Goodfellow and Calum McDougall were all enjoying this game their contribution was immense. Jamie and Alex Steventon worked very hard for little reward as to did the forwards. Their technique put lots of pressure on the Belgrave pack. Joe Leeks scored what was to be the last score of the day for Lutterworth, A great run down the wing resulted in their pack unable to stop him and he put the ball down in the corner 12 – 0. Jack Hendy put in a great tackle on the side taking their winger in to touch when Lutterworth seemed out-numbered. Lewis Shaw scored a great try for Belgrave when the Lutterworth defence left him unmarked and he raced through to score a try 12 – 5. Half Time.

The second half was spoilt when one of the Belgrave forwards took a swipe at McDougal and was sin binned (only because of their shortage of numbers) Then later in the half another fist flying saw one of the opponents leave the field for good. Barnaby Barker who was very impressive for Belgrave thought he had got through, but Dominic Hurr had other ideas and Barney ended up off the pitch on his rear end. (Nice one Dominic). The game ended up 12-5 to Lutterworth and the Coach was satisfied not only did we win; we kept our discipline as well.

Coach Man of the Match: Alex Dann. A very enthusiastic game.
