Under 14 Match Report

SUNDAY 27th November 2005

Lutterworth  38pts  V  Belgrave 10pts

We sent our opponents home quiet.

Conditions :  Dry/Cold

Belgrave started very strongly and kept Lutterworth under pressure for the first ten minutes, in fact after 5 minutes they took the lead when they won a scrum and spread the ball to Lewis Shaw who went over under the posts to give them a lead of 0 – 5. Bradley Pell then put the scores level after fifteen minutes when Goodfellow won the ball and passed it to Chan, Chan passed to Pell and the latter went over to score a very well taken try. Paddy Radley scored the conversion to make the score 7 – 5 to Lutterworth. The game was now going from end to end and there were some good individual performances from G Lane (who played at Hooker) and Bradley Pell who was involved in everything. Jamie Steventon was making some good runs and was very unlucky not to score when the ball just escaped his grip with the line beckoning. It was Belgrave who once again went in front. Johnny Bradshaw received the ball from a line out and he barged through three Lutterworth players to score in the corner 7 – 10 to Belgrave. This was a very good try and this seemed to have the desired effect on the Lutterworth lads who lifted their game to another level. Within four minutes Lutterworth regained the lead Jamie Steventon received the ball and went over in the corner, (I could not see with all the players around him, exactly what happened) 12 – 10 to Lutterworth. I am reliably informed it was a good try. Within a minute it was as if Jamie wanted to show  again how he scored,  right on half time he collected a pass from Dan Thacker and this time he sped through to place the ball under the posts. Paddy Radley converted again making the score 19 – 10 at half time.

Lutterworth made 8 or 9 changes at the interval and within a minute of the restart they increased their lead. A strong run through the middle of the field from Joe Leeks looked to be good enough to score but Lewis Shaw just caught him on the line and Joe popped it back to Barker who was there to score. Ryan Bruce (who has worked hard on his kicking) slotted the ball over and the score was now 26 – 10. The next try was the try of the match, Barnaby Barker finished off a great passage of play when, after defending, the ball was won for Lutterworth and spread right along the line eventually finding Barker and he ran a full 50 metres down the wing then across to put the ball under the posts, Ryan again converted making the score 33 – 10. The very loud supportive crowd from Belgrave were now quite but one of their followers shouted at the line out “come on boys he can’t throw it”  The Lutts lad did throw it well and this resulted in Josh Connor, a big strong lad, winning the ball and crossing the line to score the final try of the day making the final score 38 – 10. A very strong second half performance scoring 19 points without reply.

Coach's Man of the Match:    Bradley Pell.

Coach's Comments:  "Really pleased today. At times that was outstanding.  Had asked for a rucking game and that’s what we got. Well played to all the lads".
