Under 14 Match Report
SUNDAY 22nd January 2006
Count Cup - Semi Final
Lutterworth 5pts V Loughborough 19pts
Conditions Soft / Sunny.
Tragic Blow. Then Defeat.
Lutterworth started this game in control, with three good moves that all were held up on the line. After 5 minutes however optimism evaporated when the Captain Daniel Thacker was carried off with a severe injury that turned out later to be a broken leg. The whole mood of the game turned and Lutterworth game plan seemed to change and go flat. Lutterworth went a try down when their number 8 Forbes charged through to score a try whilst Lutterworth were trying to reform their pack, the conversion was scored as well and the score was 0 – 7.
Lutterworth did settle down and two minutes before half time their hard work was rewarded when Leeks went on a dazzling run and laid it off to Bruce, the latter scored in the corner and although the conversion was missed Lutterworth were back in the game. Half time 5 – 7 to Loughborough. Loughborough were putting Lutterworth under a great deal of pressure but Lutterworth’s forwards were working very hard but getting little reward, just when Lutterworth looked to be gaining control another penalty conceded put Lutts under pressure and they succumbed to another try being scored once again by Forbes another barging run resulted in him crossing the line, the conversion was missed but the score was now 5 – 12. The game drifted in to the last 5 minutes and Loughborough finally put Lutterworth to the sword, this time Andy Robinson scored and converted and the score finished up at 5 – 19. The game ended and we wished Loughborough all the best in the final.
Coaches Comments.
" A little disappointing that we let the injury to the skipper affect our game plan. We went flat and at times we looked lost. It needed someone to take control and this did not happen. We have to go forward from here, we have a lot of hard games to come and we will work on what was missing today and rectify it. We now must look forward to finishing the season off in style and work hard and look forward to going on tour."
