Under 14 Match Report
SUNDAY 19th March 2006
Lutterworth 33pts V Rugby Lions 12pts
Lions dont Roar!
Conditions Dry / Bright
Lutterworth 33 12 Rugby Lions.
We have waited for 5 weeks too play, but the Lutts were not at all rusty and with just three minutes gone the first score was a welcomed sight. Lutterworths first attack produced a try when Barker set Leeks up to press on ten metres from the line. Bruce picked up the ball and crossed the line to put it directly between the posts. Bruce scored the conversion and the score was 7 0. Lutterworth's lads were certainly pressing forward and they scored again after ten minutes when they won scrum ball against the head. Leeks passed to Bruce, Bruce on to Steventon then Steventon set up Leeks who ran through to put the ball again under the bar. Bruce again converted 14 0. It took until the 15 minute before the score altered, this time a moments hesitation cost Lutterworth to concede points. The biggest guy on the field from Rugby Lions Gavin picked up a loose ball to power his way over the Lutts defence 14 7 with the conversion made Lutterworth take stock and start again. Alex Dann played like a terrier he was all over the field and he made two or three terrific tackles. Rugby were right back in to this game and again they scored when another loose ball was pounced on by the Lions and another score was inevitable 14 12 no conversion but the whistle for half time prevented another score 14 12 Half time.
After 10 minutes of play in the second half the try of the game was scored. Ryan Bruce got the ball and ran 100 metres through what seemed the whole Lions pack, he evaded five tackles and switched direction as well to run right on and score. It was great running this raised a great deal of enthusiasm from the crowd. Bruce scored the conversion as well making the score 21 12. Joe Leeks not to be outdone by his mate Bruce got the ball on the wing to ride a tackle and cross the line making the score 26 12. Bruce stepped up to kick again and the score was now 28 12. Alex Dann still playing with lots of energy popped the ball to Barker and Barnaby touched it over the line in the corner making it 33 12. Joe Leeks scored again just before the finish when another great run from the Centre resulted in the final score of the day 38 12. A great day for Lutterworth but the score did flatter them a little. Rugby Lions pressed hard and never gave up, it was a very competitive match played in a very good spirit.
Man Of the Match: Joe Leeks / George Hargreaves. Both lads were terrific giving 100% effort.
A special mention was given to Alex Dann who tackled with great endeavour.
Coaches comments:
"Handling was good but we did too much rucking today. Defence was good, but we need to play with a little more simplicity"
