Under 14 Match Report
SUNDAY 16th October 2005
Oadby Wyggs 0pts V Lutterworth 36pts
Pitch Conditions: Soft
Weather: Hazy Sunshine
Reversal: It was fantastic.
Last year Oadby Wyggs got the better of Lutterworth, but today was a different story. Right from the kick off there was a determination from Lutts to gain revenge for last year’s result. It was Ryan Bruce who broke the deadlock after 8 minutes but a lot of credit must go to the great support the back’s were getting from the forwards. Josh Connor put in a strong push just short of the line and gained possession for the backs to spread it along the line for Ryan to score under the post’s,. Bruce converted and Lutterworth were on their way 0 – 7.
The forwards were once again inspiring and their fabulous support when going forward resulted in Joseph Leeks making a surging run through the heart of the Wyggs defence to score a great try, Bruce stepped up to convert again. Lutterworth had the majority of play and their well-drilled pack won all of the scrums. Oadby Wyggs just had no answer to this relentless pressure. Jamie Steventon who put in a strong performance today scored the third try he rode two tackles and went through to score a great try, no conversion and the score at half time 0 – 19.
Barnaby Barker went on a great run and was just caught short off the line after waltzing through their pack as if they weren’t there. Ryan Bruce scored his second try of the day his powerful running got the reward it deserved making the score 0 – 24. The most fluent move of the day involving 9 members of the squad resulted in Thacker scoring the 5 try of the day. The move involved all the backs spreading the ball wide and Thacker ran it over and along the line to place it under the bar. Ryan Bruce converted taking his tally to 16 points today , 0 – 31.
On the one and only occasion Oadby looked likely to score a great tackle from Joe Leeks sent their winger over the line and into touch when he only had three metres to go to cross the line. Ben Stone got his reward for a good game when Theo Miller who was having a stormer did some lovely footwork and switched direction to pass to Ben who then finished it off with a great try in the corner. This made the final score 0 – 36.
