SUNDAY 15th January 2006
Lutterworth 35pts V Mansfield 12pts
Conditions Sunny / Soft
Lutts overpower opponents.
The game started with a storming tackle from Joshua Connor to set the standard for the rest of the game. Within five minutes Lutterworth took the lead when George Hargreaves won the ball on the wing and powered his way over the line. Ryan Bruce scored the first of his many conversions from a very difficult angle, 7 - 0. After a further three minutes of play Lutterworth made it to the try line again when they won a scrum and the ball was picked by Chan, the ball was passed to Leeks and he in turn spread it to Barker and Barny crossed over, once again a brilliant conversion by Bruce and now the score was 14 – 0. The third try was not long in coming and once again it was a scrimmage, this time Lutts won it against the head and Chan spread the ball wide which eventually reached Thacker, Dan sped through and scored and true to form today Bruce converted, 21 – 0 The last try of the half was scored with two minutes left on the clock, once more the scrum was won by Lutterworth, Chan again had his telepathic mind switched on to Thacker’s brain and the quick ball was made and the unstoppable Thacker scored his second try of the day, again another great conversion by Bruce and the boys were flying. Half time 28 – 0.
Mansfield worked hard for a score and they were rewarded when Burdett burst through the heart of Lutterworth’s defence, Lutts seemed to go asleep for a second and the damage was done. 28 – 5. Lutterworth were now trying to adapt to so many changes within the pack and this seemed to raise Mansfield’s expectations, they took advantage of Lutterworth’s hesitation and scored another try through Knight after a terrific run through our pack, the conversion was scored by Conall and now the score was 28 – 12. Lutterworth had not finished scoring yet and Hargreaves picked up a loose ball and powered in along the line, it was a tremendous bit of running from George. Paddy Radley maintained the 100% conversion rate and the sore was now 35 – 12. The entire squad to a man today played their part against a much bigger pack from Mansfield. The coaches of Lutterworth Ian & Mick were more than pleased and both commented how their training sessions had sharpened up the squad since Christmas.
