Unbeaten Run Continues

Today was a day to give the lads who do not get a chance to start every game the opportunity to show what they can do. Litchfield brought a powerful pack over and started the game with lots of fluent passing and kept the Lutterworth pack deep in their own half. After ten minutes it was up to Ben Stone to thwart the Litchfield winger with a fantastic last ditch tackle stop him in his tracks. Then again Stone produced another tackle preventing a score, but this time he ended up being injured and having to be replaced. Litchfield gathered momentum and started to pressure the Lutts defence, after a series of rucks they finally made Lutterworth pay with their efforts. Winger Jack Lions picked up the loose ball and put it over the line to take a half time lead 0 – 5 to Litchfield.

Lutterworth were matching Litchfield on possession but territory wise they were kept deep in their own half. Litchfield went further ahead through Lions once again the winger being quicker to the ball than Lutterworth’s pack. With the score being 0 – 10 to Litchfield it was now the turn of the Lutterworth backs to show what they could do and after a great passage of play Callum McDougall, who was reveling in his role today produced a very determined charge over the line to reduce the arrears to 5 – 10. Lutterworth were inspired by the score and it was not long before they were level when Matt Glover picked up the ball and ran 30 yards then passed to Alex Chan, Alex then sprinted by the lone forward of Litchfield to put the ball down to draw the scores level 10 – 10.

Litchfield were not to be outdone and within two minutes took the lead again. Roberts the hooker was on hand to take Litchfield 5 points clear again 10 - 15. Lutterworth to their credit never put their heads down and their reward was when replacement Leeks powered his way through to bring the score level again scoring in the corner to bring the score to 15 – 15. With three minutes to go Lutterworth took the lead when a move involving 7 players resulted in Barnaby Barker sprinting down the line then cutting in to place the ball between the post, Ryan Bruce converted and the score finished 22 – 15 to Lutterworth who remain unbeaten this season. There were some fine performances today from Lane, Hendy and Goodfellow but the final match was shared between two players who gave their all and certainly took their opportunity to show what they could do.

Coaches Man of the Match: Matt Glover and Callum McDougall.
