Under 14 Match Report

Sunday 9th April 2006

Fylde 17pts  V  Lutterworth  14pts

Conditions Sunny / Cold.

A game of Two / Halves.

Fylde RFC started the better of the two teams; it was as if the late nights were taking their toll. Lutterworth were still asleep when Fylde crossed the line too score under the posts, with the conversion as well Lutts were down 7 – 0. More dropped ball and very few tackles Lutterworth were being torn apart by their rivals and hosts. It wasn’t long before the score increased when from a line out Fylde ran the ball right across the line and scored in the corner for a great try, no conversion so the score was now 12 – 0.

Lutterworth now started to respond and we had a lot more of possession but gained very little ground. The forwards were under a great deal of pressure and we won very little ball. Against a strong wind it was hoped that we could  held out for the last five minutes of the half, but this was not to be. Fylde scored again right on half time in the corner and Lutterworth were glad to hear the half time whistle, 17 – 0.

Replacements and a half time team talk by coach’s Thacker and Walters did the trick and hey presto (not Preston) we were back. Lutterworth had Fylde camped on their own twenty two and there was little they could do about it. Connor and Goodfellow & Ingham propped up the defence and Bruce and Leeks were tormenting their forwards. Connor won the ball from the maul and placed the ball under the post’s to score. Ryan Bruce coverted and we had lift off, 17 – 7. Within the next two minutes we had scored again, this time it was Bruce who scored the try, but the Referee disallowed for an infringement so Lutts started again. Another five minutes passed and big Josh Connor once again got involved by taken the ball in the maul and setting up Vostanis too score with the conversion by Bruce it was now 17 – 14. Disaster took a turn for the worse next when Ingham took another heavy blow and had too be replaced, then even worse Leeks had to go off with torn ligaments and will be out for the remainder of the season. Time was not on Lutterworth’s side and the whistle blew. All credit to Fylde their first half performance saw them home, but a very valiant come back just fell short by Lutterworth and Fylde won the game 17 – 14.

Coaches Comments: "Hard luck boys, thought we would get the result, but it was not to be. A little more communication in the first half might have swung it, but hey that’s the game."

Man of the Match:    Mikey Ingham  never gave up 110%
