Under 14 Match Report

Saturday 8th April 2006

Preston Grasshoppers 3pts  V  Lutterworth  17pts

Conditions Wet / Windy

Lutts Hopped Along!

Not a great title, but this was an immense win. Against a very strong wind, not only did Lutterworth defend well they actually took the lead after 12 minutes. A rolling maul was won by Lutts, Joe Leeks picked the ball up barged through and over the line setting the lads on their way 0 – 5.  Bruce had no chance against the wind with the conversion. Preston Grasshoppers at this stage were not able to break down Lutterworth, but they did have numerous penalties and finally converted one just before the half time break 3 – 5.

Alex Dann was having a storming game as too  were  Josh Connor & Mikey Ingham. Noddy Ingham joined his fellow supporters on the line after being asked to move (We don’t know why!)  Well, we do but the least said the better. More penalties against Lutterworth the count is rising over 10 now and guess what, yep we aint had one yet.  Penalties or not Lutterworth were now in complete control.  Bruce and Leeks were working well together. Goodfellow won some good ball and set up Stone, Ben went forward but was knocked in touch by three players. Dann again tackled brilliantly their number 8 must have wondered what hit him on numerous occasions.  Lutterworth won three line outs on the bounce two against the throw and Conner scored after one was won just 10 yards out Connor won the ball passed it back then he popped up just short of the line and won possession and scored, Ryan Bruce scored the conversion, Lutts were now 3 – 12 up.

Preston were not at the races and Lutterworth tackled with great venom every time a Preston player had the ball. Ben Stone ran his heart out and was unlucky on a couple of occasions not to get past the last man. Jamie Steventon (With Boots) was getting more and more in to the game and his reward was to score with five minutes to go. Jamie beat three men and managed to just out do the last tackle to cross the line in the corner. Once again the strong cross wind (another excuse) prevented Ryan Bruce from converting, but the score was a very creditable 3 – 17. There is not a lot of detail in this report but I could not take my eyes off the game, it was a very enjoyable win and like I said at the beginning, it was an immense win. Well done to all the squad, I am sure the coaches comments will mirror what has been written.

Coaches Comments: " Well played Lads that was a terrific win, a win that needed a lot of bottle and 100% concentration. Line outs were great and the scrummaging was even better. Well done"

He was very proud of you all.

Man of the Match: Alex Dann: Should tour every week, what tackles!
