Under 14 Match Report

SUNDAY 8th January 2006

Long Buckby 0pts  V  Lutterworth  36pts

Conditions Cold / Soft.

Happy New Year

'A good start for the New Year in result if not in performance!'  was the comment from head coach Thacker.   Lutterworth did enough to get a result but the break for four weeks has taken its toll. The lines were not as solid as normal and the scrums were a little loose, only to be expected I suppose.

The first half was a very even affair, with neither side scoring any points. Lutterworth were showing a lot of effort but not managing to break through the opponent’s lines. Walch had one or two good runs as to did Thacker & Dann.  Calum McDougall was very strong when going into the rucks indeed his general play was very strong indeed.  Although we did not score in the half we also prevented the opponents from scoring as well.  Lane and Goodfellow produced a couple of great tackles as too did Dan Thacker who stopped their winger from going through with a crunching tackle that left the opponent struggling along the touch line in agony. We did have more territory advantage and we also had a lot more ball as well.   Half Time 0 – 0.

The second half was a different story Lutterworth scored 6 tries and three conversions without reply within 14 minutes, then they were asked by the referee to make a few changes otherwise he would have no alternative but to stop the game. The Scorers were as follow:

1)      Hargreaves scored not converted. 2) Chan scored not converted.

3)      Hargreaves scored Bruce converted. 4) Leeks scored Bruce converted.

5)      Ingham scored not converted 6) Barker scored Bruce converted.

Barker, Ingham, Bruce and Leeks did some powerful runs and the forwards won all their scrums including two or three against the head during this 14 minutes. The coaches made the changes and this enabled some of the lads to have extra playing time which I am sure will benefit those involved.

Coaches Man of the match: Calum McDougall - a very strong all round game.
