Under 14 Match Report
SUNDAY 5th February 2006
Mkt Bosworth 10pts V Lutterworth 36pts
Conditions Sunny / Dry.
A Pleasing Result
A game of nip and tuck for the first ten minutes, with Bosworth matching Lutterworth’s efforts. It was not until the tenth minute that Lutterworth gained the edge when a maul was won by the Lutterworth team and Barnaby Barker took the ball in to the corner to set Lutterworth on their way 0 – 5. Far from lying down an improved Bosworth pack battled and deserved a try when Lutts knocked forward and from the advantage being played Bosworth gained control and their winger picked up the loose ball to sprint through the heart of Lutts pack and draw the scores level 5 – 5. Lutterworth fought right back and great hands and a positive run from Jamie Steventon just failed to break through. It would have finished off a great move from Lutterworth. Jack Lewis and Josh Williams were getting stuck in and both looked very sharp producing tackle after tackle.
We did not have to wait long to regain the lead, once again it was Barker who scored, good work from Bruce to Chan then on to Barker resulted in the latter crossing the line to score. Bruce did a remarkable conversion with fantastic distance and made the score 5 – 12. Within two further minutes Lutterworth extended the score, another maul was won and the same result Barnaby Barker getting the ball to cross over in the corner for his and Lutts third try of the game 5 – 17.Joe Leeks and Ryan Bruce were constantly probing the Bosworth lines with their dazzling runs and their constant switch play. Lutterworth were beginning to show that confidence was returning with fluent moves and they looked a well drilled unit.
Bosworth started the second half with a little more determination, realizing that if Lutts scored again the contest may be over. They did get their reward when once more a breakaway resulted in them getting a second try to narrow the lead to just seven points 10 – 17. Mikey Ingham was all over the place he looked determined to get on the score sheet; he certainly looked up for the game, and this rubbed off with other members of the squad. Leeks and Bruce once more combined in the centre of the park and Leeks ended up sprinting 50 metres to put the ball in the corner being hotly perused by the Bosworth pack. Ryan Bruce scored another great conversion; his kicking is really getting stronger with more direction 10 – 24. Joe Leeks scored again when he received a pass and sprinted down the line he then cut in and put the ball under the posts, making the kick easier for Ryan to score 10 – 31. My intuition paid off when, you guessed it, Mikey Ingham scored a try with his usual commitment he won the ball and took three people over with him to score, making the final score 10 – 36 to the Lutterworth boys.
