Under 14 Match Report
SUNDAY 4th December 2005
Lutterworth 17pts V Old Northamptonians 7pts
Conditions : Sunny / Soft.
Well disciplined with a fantastic result !
This time last year Lutterworth were well and truly beaten, but this year the Lutterworth lads showed just how much they have improved. From the start of the game we put Old Northamptonians deep in their own 22. Tackles today were immense, and throughout the team there was a pumped up atmosphere.
For fifteen minutes the game was at a stalemate and it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play. A scrum was won by Northamptonians and the ball was spread along the line eventually reaching the National 400 metres champion (Moyo Seecun). Moyo left everyone in his wake and put the try between the posts. The conversion was scored and that was the last time the winger had any chance to shine, 0 – 7. Lutterworth now moved up a gear and their skipper Dan Thacker's quick change of feet left the opponents flat footed . Dan set up Joe Leeks who ran through at great speed to score in the corner, 5 – 7. Ryan Bruce hit the bar with the conversion but the ball bounced back in to play.
The second half started as the first half ended with Lutterworth pressing for the lead. It came when Dan Thacker received the ball after great play from the forwards. The scrummage was won and Vostanis passed to Thacker and the skipper duly obliged with a try once again in the corner 10 – 7. Old Northamptonians made a few changes, the lads that came on were bigger than the ones going off, but this seemed to make Lutterworth all the more determined with the tackles going in all over the place. Lutterworth restricted Old Northamptonians to a short passing game, such that they could not release their speed merchants and this being Lutterworth,s game plan it counteracted all of Old Northamptonians moves. Conner and Vostanis were everywhere today in fact it was Lutterworth as a team that were quicker to the ball almost every time which gave them a huge advantage. With four minutes to go the forwards once again won a scrummage and Chan passed to Vostanis who in turn spread it to Thacker. Dan took it through a lack lustre defence and the game was almost won. Ryan Bruce kicked the conversion with a well struck kick straight as a die and the score was 17 – 7 to Lutterworth.
There was a lot of effort from Padbury returning from injury, Leeks, Bruce, Thacker with the help of Barker proving to strong for the opponents when our running game took shape. Very big games from Vostanis and Connor, but all in all the entire team were determined that last year’s result would be reversed.
