SUNDAY 20th November 2005
Aylestone St James 7pts v Lutterworth 38pts
On a bright but
very chilly morning Aylestone St James (Jimmies) kicked off, the ball was
taken cleanly by Lutterworth and good forward play took them deep into the
Jimmies half. After a number of mauls Lutterworth gained there first scrum
in an ideal attacking position From the scrum Jack Tranter fed Adam Fisher
who broke past his marker and then the full back to score under the posts,
Jack Tranter then converted to give Lutterworth]a early 7-0 lead. The
Lutterworth forwards gained confidence from this early score and were
playing excellently as a unit mauling and scrumaging to keep good
possession. From another attacking scrum the ball was passed across the
backs to winger Josh Shevas who then passed inside to full back Jamie Milner
who touched down un opposed. The conversion from wide was just missed by
Jack Tranter. Now the forwards and the backs were playing with confidence
and excellent breaks by Jarrad Carter and Jamieson Hodges again set up an
attacking scrum on the Jimmies 22, again the ball was moved along the backs
to winger Josh Shevas who this time sprinted past the Jimmies defence and
touched down in the corner. The conversion was just missed this time by
Chris Gutteridge. Yet more pressure from the forwards with breaks by Sam
Weatherall and Harry Gregory, set up Jamieson Hodges to dart over from 5
yards out, this time Jack Tranter converted to give Lutterworth a
comfortable half time lead.
Half Time Aylestone St James 0 Lutterworth 24
Lutterworth introduced a number of changes for the second half and for a
time lost a bit of the fluidity and the Jimmies forwards started to gain
some ground and kept the pressure on the Lutterworth defence and when
Lutterworth failed to clear from their own scrum the Jimmies touched down
and then converted to make it 7 - 24. This stirred Lutterworth and from a
break by Ben Niblett the forwards won a number of phases of good possession,
before Sam Weatherall broke through the Jimmies defence to touch down, this
time Harry Gregory missed the conversion from out wide.
From the kick off Chris Gutteridge caught the ball and sprinted past the
Jimmies only to be caught by the last man. But from the ensuing pressure the
forwards took the ball into the Jimmies 10 yard area and again Sam
Weatherall broke from a maul to touch down under the posts, Jamie Milner
converted to make the final score Lutterworth 38 Aylestone St James 7
