Under 13 Match Report

SUNDAY 19th February 2006

Lutterworth  7pts  v  Melton Mowbray  32pts

Melton Mowbrey won the toss and elected to kick off putting early pressure on the Lutterworth defence, however Adam Fisher kicks clear to take play to the Lutterworth 10 yard line. Melton keep up the pressure with some good forward play and passing across the backs and eventually the pressure pays off and Melton pass the ball across the backs to score in the corner. Lutterworth kick off and take play deep into the Melton half and breaks from centres Uldis Krievs and Carlton Leavis are cleared. Melton break up field very quickly passing fluently across the back line, but Lutterworth clear the danger and forwards Sam Huckerby and Chris Gutteridge try to set up some good ball for the backs but it is Melton who look the most dangerous and again they break quickly into the Lutterworth half and passing again across the back line and after a number of phases break again down the wing and score in the corner. Melton gain more confidence and put together some good passing and mauling to put more pressure on Lutterworth and this time the forwards break from a maul to score again near the posts and convert the try to extend their lead.

Half Time Lutterworth 0 -Melton 17

Lutterworth kick of the second half knowing they need a score to get back into the game and from the kick the forwards keep the pressure on the Melton defence and great work from Harry Gregory and John Harman set up Sam Huckerby who is stopped just short of the Melton Line.  Melton eventually clear the danger and take play deep into the Lutterworth half. Forwards Sam Huckerby and Chris Gutteridge though manage to get possession back and a quick interplay leaves Sam Huckerby to run from the Lutterworth 22 yard down the wing then breaking a couple of tackles to come inside and sprint all the way to the Melton line to score under the posts, Jack Tranter converts to cut the Melton lead. However Melton start off again as they finished the first half passing the ball well and moving up field, eventually their play is rewarded with another try in the corner to increase their lead further. This really put the game out of Lutterworths reach and two further tries towards the end for Melton saw them run out deserved winners.
