Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 15th January 2006
County Cup - Quarter Final
Lutterworth 52pts V Vipers 19pts
Lutterworths captain Harry Gregory won the toss and elected to play against a stiff breeze. Vipers kicked off and John Harman caught the ball cleanly and set off up field with the Lutterworth forwards driving on they took the ball to the Vipers 22 yard line to put early pressure on the Vipers defence, unfortunately the ball is knocked on and Vipers clear to the half way line. After a brief spell in the middle of the field Vipers take the ball deep into the Lutterworth 22, and from the line out they throw to the front and the Vipers forwards drive on, good defence from Lutterworth keep them out but from the maul Vipers dive over to open the scoring, conversion missed. From the kick Lutterworth start to show more composure and the forwards set up a number of good mauls for Jack Tranter to set the backs up with some good attacking ball, eventually centre Jordan Tebb, breaks through and goes round the full back to score next to the posts, Jack Tranter converts to give Lutterworth the lead.
From the
restart Lutterworth again take the game to Vipers the forwards setting up
good ball for the backs to continue attacking the Vipers defence again, this
time it is centre Uldis Krievs who breaks through down the left to score in
the corner, Chris Gutteridge misses the conversion from out wide. Back came
Vipers and a great run is only stopped by a great last ditch tackle from
Lutterworths full back Jamieson Hodges. Lutterworth forwards drive into the
Vipers half again and Sam Huckerby breaks from a maul to crash through the
Vipers defence and score under the posts, Jack Tranter converts to extend
Lutterworths lead. With the Lutterworth backs gaining confidence wingers
Josh Shevas and Carlton Leavis are both thwarted by the Vipers defence, but
they could not stop full back Jamieson Hodges coming into the line at pace
and sprinting around the Vipers defence for another Lutterworth score, Chris
Gutteridge converted the try to seal an excellent first half display by
Lutterworth.
Half Time Lutterworth 26 Vipers 5
Lutterworth kick off the second half looking to build on their first half
performance and with the forwards still dominating Vipers and setting up
good ball for the backs to attack it was not long before captain Harry
Gregory picked up a loose ball and stepped inside the defence to dive over
and open the second half scoring, Jack Tranter missed the conversion from
wide. Vipers were not going to give up with out a fight and it was only
another try saving tackle from full back Jamieson Hodges that kept them out
and when flanker Sam Huckerby broke from another maul to sprint from his own
half breaking 3 or 4 tackles to dive over under the posts Lutterworth
increased their lead further. Again back cam Vipers and from a penalty 7
yards out they forced the ball over under the posts to reduce the
Lutterworth lead. The excellent forward play created more good ball for
Lutterworth to score further tries from Sam Huckerby and Uldis Krievs both
converted by Jack Tranter, a Vipers consolation try at the end saw
Lutterworth through to the next round with a well deserved excellent
victory.
