Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 5th March 2006
County Cup - Semi Final
Kibworth 50pts V Lutterworth 0pts
Kibworth kicked off with the wind on their backs and Lutterworth cleared the ball to the half way Line. This gave both sets of forwards the chance to try and gain an advantage, however this ended in a stalemate with play in the centre of the pitch and both sets of forwards trying to set up some attacking play and it was Kibworth who were first to get the ball to their backs and put some pressure on the Lutterworths defence. From the subsequent scrum the ball was passed wide for the Kibworth full back to come into the line at pace and break through the defence, sprinting around the Lutterworth full back to score in the corner. This gave Kibworth the confidence to pass the ball across their backs and put Lutterworth under further pressure and this time it was passed all the way to their winger who sprinted down the wing to score again.
It was all Kibworth and again after a number of phases they got the space out wide this time scoring under the posts to make it 19-0. Lutterworth need to score to get back into the game and great play from Sam Huckerby and Harry Gregory took them into the Kibworth 10 metre area and sustained pressure was eventually kicked clear to the 22 by Kibworth but again the Lutterworth forwards took the ball from the line out and set up an excellent running maul controlled by no. 8 Chris Gutteridge and when Kibworth handled in the ruck Lutterworth took the tap penalty. First Sam Huckerby then Uldis Krievs were held up from penalties and when finally Jarred Carter went over at the back of another maul, Lutterworth thought they had scored only for the referee to award a 5 yard scrum. They were awarded a penalty but when Lutterworth lost the ball the danger was cleared. The ref blew for half time and the opportunity was lost.
Half Time Kibworth 19 - Lutterworth 0
Lutterworth kicked off the second half with the wind behind them knowing
that they needed an early
score to get back into the game and from the kick took play deep into the
Kibworth half. However Kibworth had learned their lesson from the first half
and at every opportunity got the ball away from the Lutterworth forwards and
to their backs where they were quite clearly stronger and it was Kibworth
who worked the ball down the wing to sore again and this was very much the
way the rest of the second half went with Kibworth running in 5 more tries
to run out comprehensive winners.
