LADIES  TEAM   Match Report

Midlands Division 1

Sunday 27th November 2005

Lutterworth Ladies 10pts  V  Stoneygate Ladies   5pts

Lutterworth Ladies met rivals Stoneygate at home today. Lutts knew that they needed to win and that Stoneygate would not be easy opponents. The game would be an exciting hard battle. The history between these two teams certainly promised a game to watch!

The game started well for Lutts with their forwards dominating the Gate. In fact both line outs and scrums were all Lutts. No 15 Zoe Smith kicks the ball over Gates backs with Becky Hall winger for Lutts chasing, fortunately the ball fell perfect for Lutts and the first try was scored by Becky Hall (her first try also).  Lutt kept most of the possession during the first half with both sides conceding penalties. Lutt backs took the ball well into Gate and some good moves began to develope. A mistake by Lutt saw No 9 Lucky Stephenson sent to the bin leaving Lutts  a player down but still they fought and no points were conceded during the first half.

The second half saw No 9 for Gate also sent to the bin. By this time Gate began to get frustrated and some dirty play was evident.  A well fought try was scored by Lutts by No 3 Louise Clancy. Gate's coach was riled by this and abuse towards the ref saw a red card - the first time Lutts had seen an opposition's coach sent off!  The game was getting interesting, and with 18 mins to go Gate had a runaway try the score was now 10 - 5.  Lutt held on until the final whistle and finally a well deserved win for Lutts was in the bag. Once again the ref heard abuse from a Gate player and issued another red card - the first time Lutts had seen a red card after the final whistle!

It goes to show hard work, good rugby, team spirit and determination pays off.  Well done Ladies.
