Lutterworth Ladies met Shelford Ladies at home yesterday. After the
first 5 mins of the game Lutts supporters held heads in their hands as
Shel's backs dominated the game and 2 easy tries within minutes gave
nothing but a negative vibe. Its like a penny dropped within the home team
however and the 14 points to Shelford became 5- 14 - with the referee
missing 2 tries and calling one held up - number 9 Vicki Berridge made
double sure with a leaping try!.
Lutts rugby improved dramatically, backs and forwards came
alive and team play was now visible. A walk in the park for Lutt's
forwards with strong powerful scrums proving to much for Shelford and
injuries became inevitable. Line outs from the home team gave a
platform to walk the ball metres up the pitch pushing Shelford to give
away penalties. Number 15 Zoe Smith's calmness and experienced boot
saw 6 points on the board. Unfortunately Shelfords quick classy runners
powered through Lutt scoring 4 well worked tries. Lutt needed to step up a
gear. Lutts backs put some brave tackles in and Number 10 Connie Packwood
went over for another 5 points. A scrum in Shel's 22 saw a powerful drive
from Lutt and number 8 Zoe Markham scored another well worked try.
An all round improvement from Lutt's performance to previous week saw
them leading with 2 minutes to go. Unfortunately Shel's got the ball at
the wrong time and scored, a conversation saw the away side win by 2
points. Keep it up girls a win will come your way soon!
