LADIES  TEAM   Match Report

Midlands Division 1

Sunday 12th February 2006

Shelford Ladies   24pts v Lutterworth Ladies 25pts

The underdogs Lutterworth travelled to Shelford today for league game. Lutterworth knew a tough battle was ahead of them, needing to win to help stay in Division 1. The weather conditions were perfect for Lutts forwards, not so good for Shel's pack who found it difficult from the start to control Lutts bulky yet technical pack. By half time it was hard to see which players belonged to which team due to the thick mud.

Shelford scored some well worked tries using their fast backs. Lutts full back Hannah Faulds defended superbly considering it was her first game in that position. Lutts backs demonstrated commitment & power in their defensive tackles - the score could have been different for Shel's. Natalie Mcleavy presented leadership & persistent approach with some classic rolling mauls. Lutts forwards demonstrated team play and drove Shel's back towards the try line on several occasions with tries from Jenny bridge & Lucy Stephenson helping Lutts to victory.

In the 70th minute the score was 17 / 15 to Shel's. A well worked backs move saw Winger Becky Hall run in a try to make  the score now 20 / 17 to Lutt. With 5 minutes to go Shel's ran in an excellent backs try, the score now 24 / 20 to Shel's. The side thinking that it was all over and the dreams Lutts had of taking home a win were broken, until play continued and Lutts took a driving line out towards the line. A team effort saw No 9 Lucy Stephenson seal a win over a shell shocked Shelford- the score finishing 24 / 25! Well done Ladies about time!
